How to build your own Urban Garden
The location
First of all we have to choose your space. So that we can build several types of urban gardens, once we know our available space we will choose the one that suits us, a clear example would be to opt for a vertical garden if we only have one wall.
In my case I will explain the classic urban garden, which can be carried out in a patio, balcony or terrace. Keep in mind that this place has good lighting, between 5 and 6 hours of light, since our plants need it to be able to live and grow healthy and strong.
The Soil
Remember that not all land is suitable to grow a garden orchard, the best would be a mixture between substrate, mulch, and compost of coconut fiber. With this mixture we will obtain a soil with good water drainage and our plants will develop beautifully.
Watering
Just like people, plants need to drink water, therefore, maintaining humidity in our urban garden is vital. The most common mistake is to install an urban garden without taking into account the availability of water, but if this happens, it is best to have some type of deposit that you can fill and use. In my case, I reuse water bottles of 6 and 8 liters, although, in the future, I want to build a system to collect water from the rains & planning to use best soaker hose.
Preparing the pots
For our urban garden it require to be as ecological as possible, we can reuse fruit boxes that are usually discarded or even wooden boxes. To use them as a pot, we will need the following materials:
Drawers, plastic or mesh bags, flanges and scissors. (If the drawers are made of wood, a stapler will also be useful for fixing the mesh or plastic).
To finish, I explain how I am making my vegetable garden step by step, without spending hardly any money. I hope you like it and, if so, share this on your social networks since, with that simple gesture, you will be helping me to create new idea.
Improve The Crops of Your Urban Garden
Improve the production of your garden with these tips. If you have a small urban garden, potted plants or a small space in the garden dedicated to the urban garden, you cannot miss these tips that will facilitate the cultivation and, with which, you will get better products and in a greater quantity.
Tips for Lettuce
In this crop it is important to respect the plantation framework, they can be very close, but if you plant them with a very extreme proximity, they will grow slowly and some of them will remain very small. It is also important that the soil is rich in organic matter.
Tips for Onions and Garlic
They are plants that we call bulbous, to which the heat and humidity affect them considerably. We have to control these factors very well to avoid rotting and, consequently, the loss of the harvest. For this it is best to cultivate in a mound or, failing that, in a very well-drained soil.
Tomato Tips
For me, the king of the garden is the tomato without any doubt, we will plant it deeply in loose soils rich in organic matter. The most important thing is to cover the trunk with soil whenever it comes out too much and, if necessary, place a tutor and perform the corresponding pruning. With little care this plant will give you a lot.
Tips for Parsley
The seeds of parsley have a very bad reputation, you can find in many forums people who ask when they will germinate and, with time, throw in the towel. The normal thing is that they take between 10 and 15 days, if the seed is good it will germinate. As on other occasions, to reduce the germination time, we can have them soak for a few hours before planting them.
Tips for Peppers and Chiles
It is a very grateful plant too. In this case, I recommend the use of tutors since, if your soil is rich in organic matter, it will grow a lot and the plant with the wind can split. We must harvest as the plant gives us fruits, if we let them worsen production.
The cucurbits
Watermelons, melons, pumpkins, zucchini and cucumbers, among others, are included in this genre. These need heat to germinate well. We can make quilts or use black plastics to promote the growth of these plants. We need to take special care in the irrigation and avoid wetting the leaves to avoid fungus and rotting of its fruits.
I hope these tips are useful, I practice them in the garden and I can say with total confidence that they improve the production of your garden. Remember that you can share this entry in social networks, helping other people who start in this urban garden.
