Design and Display

Huawei P Smart is a smart and lightweight phone, courtesy of its plastic unibody that carries a high-gloss effect. It is available in three colours – Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Aurora Blue. While the back, at first glance, may look like glass, it is made of plastic and has a tendency to sustain scratches. So be sure to invest in a case since the box doesn’t come with one. Huawei P Smart feels light and smooth in hand and the size is perfect to fit in your pockets without making an annoying bulge. It does come with a pre-fitted screen protector so that’s something you don’t have to worry about.  

When it comes to display, Huawei P Smart doesn’t disappoint considering its price. The 6.21-inches screen boasts a resolution of 2230 x 1080 pixels at 415ppi pixel density which is the same as much pricier phones. The brightness and contrast of the screen is also incredibly impressive. The thin bezels give it a very smart and seemingly expensive look while also providing more space to watch videos or play games. The tiny dewdrop notch that the front camera is tucked in doesn’t feel too heavy on the eyes. The back of the phone houses a fingerprint sensor in the middle that in addition to unlocking the phone also pulls up the notifications tab with a swipe. The rear dual-camera sits cosily in the top left corner of the back, vertically.

Performance

Huawei P Smart is equipped with Hisilicon Kirin 710 octa-core processor that performs all the basic tasks smoothly. 3GB RAM offers enough power for the lighter tasks but a visible drop in performance is noticed when you try to run more power-hungry apps and games. If you are messaging your friends, perusing social media, shopping online, checking your emails or drafting documents, everything works just fine. However, the moment you load 3D games or heavy apps, a stutter starts to make itself known. In our opinion, when you factor in the price, the performance is decent enough. You can’t possibly expect an entry-level phone to run demanding apps and games smoothly.

Storage and Battery  

It boasts an ample storage capacity of 64GB which can be further expanded up to 512GB with a micro SD card. Excellent for a phone under £200! Store as many photos, videos, movies and documents as you want without having to worry about running out of space.

In terms of battery, Huawei P Smart punches above its weight. With a 3,400mAh battery, it lasts longer than you’d expect given its large Full HD LCD screen. Even with continuous usage, the phone can last up to an entire day. Talk about impress longevity at this price.

Camera   

Huawei P Smart houses fairly good cameras. The 8MP front camera and 13MP + 2MP dual rear camera produce decent results. They’re AI-enhanced just like the pricier phones. The bright, lively results are pleasant to the eye, satisfying the photographer in you.
